“The Watchers” began as sketchbook doodles and idea sketches as far back as 2002. I kept refining and clarifying the concept through the years until I finally began painting this piece, finishing it early this year, 2007. The figures are all drawn from my imagination, as is the somewhat surreal scene they find themselves in. The work is highly symbolic and metaphorical with deeply felt meanings for me, but I won’t burden the viewers with my ideas, preferring instead for them to draw their own conclusions and find their own meanings in the mysterious drama being played out in the composition.
