Helen Burton, GWS
Pride of Alaska
18" x 24"
GWS 2007 Members' Exhibition
Architecture and nature co-exist in harmony within Helen's watercolor paintings. The solid forms and individual designs of man-made structures command her attention, yet the delicate shapes and translucent colors of the botanical sphere intrigue and delight her. In a scenic painting, she can express the best of both worlds. More than 20 of her house portraits have utilized this successful combination.
Watercolor is the ideal medium for rendering the distinctive details of sculptural elements, and capturing the elusive essence of a living plant. She expresses her personal response to the unique beauty of the subject and interprets it so as to give information and pleasure to the viewer.
Helen is a full-time professional artist, trained in graphic design. Her formal training at the Corcoran Art Institute and the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. was followed by commercial art in Miami and architectural drafting in Tennessee. In Florida, 12 annual watercolor workshops with national experts taught the techniques and expression evident in her work today. She derives inspiration from Frank Lloyd Wright, Andrew Wyeth, Georgia O'Keeffe, Claude Monet and the Impressionist School. European travels influence her work which is in collections in 22 states and eight countries.
