GWS 2007 Members' Exhibition
Jan has been creating art since the time she could hold a crayon, however her formal arts education began at the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts. She continued her studies while living/traveling in Europe for 6 years, as well as ongoing education through workshops with some of America's top watercolor instructors, including Mel Stabin, Judi Betts, Jan Kunz, Joe Fettingis, Joseph Bohler, Jim Kosvanec, Gary Curtis, Betty Carr, Jack Sheilds, Gerald Brommer and others. Having traveled to 25 foreign countries, this Ohio native has been fortunate to have an endless supply of subject matter.
The Georgia Watercolor Society awarded Jan with its highest level of Achievement, "Signature Membership" in 2004. She has qualified for Signature Membership in the American Plains Artists. Jan continuously strives to capture the 'spirit' of people, the individual personalities of animals, the essence of a place and the many textures of things around her. Jan's award-winning watercolors have been accepted in over 200 local, regional and National juried exhibitions. Numerous publications have featured Jan's work, including the International magazine, "The Chronicle of the Horse", selecting her painting "On the Bit" for its cover page. Currently, her work is included in the Western Colorado Watercolor National Juried Show, the Alabama Watercolor Society's National Juried Exhibition, Missouri Watercolor Society's National Juried Exhibition, Las Vegas Arts Council International Juried Exhibition, Las Vegas, NM, ARTstation of Stone Mountain, and Emory University. Jan has been a full-time artist for the past 10 years, after being a full-time mother to her grown daughters, Jackie and Jenny. She lives in Kennesaw with her husband, Robert and cat, "Sweet Pea".
